Frequently Asked Questions

A Few Common Questions About Our Tutoring Service

How is STEMpossible Tutors different from a learning center?

STEMpossible Tutors comes directly to you, in the convenience of your home (or other public location), and we are generally more affordable than learning centers. There are no expensive academic evaluations, hidden costs or contracts. Our tutors work with your child’s school curriculum and diverse learning styles. Although we do not require a time-committed contract, we strongly encourage regular scheduled sessions to achieve your child’s highest potential.

Do you provide tutoring services in my area?

If you’re within Orlando and surrounding areas, yes. We service Lake, Orange, and Seminole counties.

Who are the tutors?

Our tutors have a minimum of two years teaching and/or tutoring experience. They include credentialed teachers, aspiring teachers, and STEM college majors. All tutors have been screened, interviewed and background checked, ensuring a qualified pool of professional, responsible and reliable instructors. Our tutors have a passion for children and education. They have worked with diverse backgrounds and personalities while fostering academic achievement.  Learn more about our tutors here.

How much is a tutoring session?

Our 1-hour sessions are $65/hour for academic tutoring.  The rate for ACT and SAT exam prep is $95/hour.

What can I expect in my child's tutoring session?

Each tutoring session is meant to be interactive. Students can expect to ask and answer questions, clarify concepts, develop helpful study strategies, and occasionally be assigned homework.

Can tutoring take place in a location other than my home?

Yes, our tutors can meet at public libraries or other agreed upon location. We do not tutor in student’s dorm rooms or apartments. Many of our tutors also offer virtual tutoring.  An adult over the age of 18 must be present during all tutoring sessions.

How do I sign my child up for tutoring?

Book your tutoring session online or call/text us at 407-476-4493 so that we may match you with a highly-qualified tutor.

Do you work with homeschoolers?

Yes, our company is very familiar with the home-schooling community and needs. We recognize that home-schooling is a viable alternative to more traditional methods of education. Our tutors work with traditional, online or independent study approaches to home-schooling.

How does online tutoring work?

Students must have access to a computer and high-speed internet. During the session, the student and tutor will use Skype to hear and see one another, and an online whiteboard that they can both write on using a mouse or tablet.  Images and worksheets can be uploaded onto the whiteboard.

We recommend that students use a headset during tutoring, as it cuts down on background noise. Any standard headset will work. If you need a webcam, this one works well for most computers.

Students may choose to write on their own paper during sessions.  However, some students may prefer to write on the online whiteboard. We recommend a tablet like this one in those instances.

How and when do I pay for my session(s)?

For sessions that are scheduled as needed: payment is required by card at the time of scheduling.

For regularly scheduled weekly sessions: Invoices are generated for the upcoming week and sent to your email each Sunday.  Payments are automatically debited three days later.  This means you save your credit card details once and everything becomes automated.

All major credit cards are accepted. Please do not pay your tutor directly. All payments must be made through TutorCruncher.

Is there a minimum commitment, and how long is each session?

We do not require a time commitment, although we strongly suggest continuity in order to realize the greatest benefit. Sessions are a minimum of one hour long.  Our usual recommendation is for students to receive tutoring services 1-2x/week.

What is your cancellation policy?

All appointments must be cancelled 24 hours in advance or else full lesson fees will apply. We ask that you let us know about a cancellation as soon as possible, so we can rearrange times for our tutors, to avoid gaps in their schedule and/or to offer the time slot to another student. Please call or text (do not email) your tutor to cancel a session.

What if my child doesn't like the tutor?

If, at any time, you do not think the tutor is a good match for yourself or your child, another tutor will be selected. Our commitment is to your child’s progress and the perfect tutor match is a key component. Our director will work with you for complete and guaranteed satisfaction.

Do you have a curriculum?

No. Our tutors work with your child’s required assignments and textbooks in order to reinforce what they learn in class. The skills developed in tutoring will be immediately applied in the classroom.

Do you offer tutoring over the summer?

Continuity is vital to sustained academic success. It is crucial to continue studies throughout the academic year, holiday breaks and summer. STEMpossible offers year-round instruction. Our tutors are flexible and dedicated to giving your children an edge at the start of their next grade level.

Do you offer group sessions?

Yes. We offer tutoring for groups of up to 4 students. Only one subject will be tutored during each session. Please contact us for special (lower) group rates.
